Sentence types.

TermDefinition
Independent Clause Can stand by itself or with a dependent. Express a complete thought.
Dependent clause Cannot stand by themselves. Do not express complete thoughts,
Simple Sentence Consists of a single, independent Clause that includes a subject and a verb/ predicate.
Compound sentence Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon.
Complex sentence A single independent Clause and a dependent clause. Will always contain a subordinating conjunction (because, after, since, etc.)
Compound-complex sentence Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause.
