Sentence Types

TermDefinition
Independent Clause Can stand by itself or with a dependent clause. Expresses a complete thought.
Dependent Clause Cannot stand by itself. Doesn't express a complete thought.
Simple Sentence Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and verb.
Compound Sentence Joins two independent clauses together with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or a a semicolon.
Complex Sentence A single independent clause and dependent clause.
Compound-Complex Sentence Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one dependent clause.
Fanboys For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so.
