Medical Ethics

QuestionAnswer
Ethics social values conduct; description of what is right and wrong
Morals what is right and wrong in human behavior
Values a fundamental belief about what is important, guiding behavior and decision making
Civility exhibiting politeness and respect in communication with others
Integrity the quality of being honest and consistent in adhering to strong moral and ethical principles
Dignity the concept of having intrinsic worth that is universal and not dependent on circumstances, status, or personal achievements.
Beneficence the obligation to do good and promote the well-being of others.
Nonmaleficence the ethical principle of avoiding intentional harm, often summarized as "do no harm"
Autonomy the capacity for self-governance and the right of individuals to make informed decisions about their own lives and bodies, free from external control
Justice the principle of giving each person what they are due, often interpreted as fairness, equality, and impartiality
Veracity an ethical principle that refers to the duty to tell the truth and provide accurate information
Empathy the ability to understand and share the feelings of another
Sympathy the feeling of pity or sorrow for someone else's misfortune
Service A value indicator- responding to patients and co-workers with an understanding of their needs, showing kindness and patience
Justice/Fairness A value indicator- treat all people with respect
Excellence Taking responsibility for yourself your team's decision, and the results.
