Live Line

Live Line Maintenance Term referring to working on energized lines. Used to replace interrupted service
Outages Can be planned or unplanned. Planned outages are for maintence, and unplanned are usually accidental, or storm related
IEEE Stand Alone, Independent
Hot sticks Tools used for energized work on powerlines. Can be used on transmission, distribution overhead, and underground
Rubber Gloves method of protection and work practice for the line worker. Only used on distribution energized voltages.
Insulated cover used to protect the line worker from incidental or accidental contact. made from 2 different potentials. Made from rubber, plastic, or fiberglass
Bare Hand Method of working on extra-high and ultra-high voltages. accomplished by bonding to the line to become the same potential as the line.
Chain hoist uses such as pulling guys, lifting heavy wire, sagging transmission lines, splicing wire on transmission wire. Used to put sleeves in the wire
Hot hoist Used to sag wire, y block wire, or install sleeves in energized distribution primary and secondary circuits
Mechanical Jumper Used to keep the line energized. Come in different sizes and lengths. The wire size needs to be able to carry the load of the line
Insulated Aerial Bucket truck Must be tested every year for safety
