Separation of powers Power that has been divided equally to three distinct branches
Checks and Balances Each branch had the ability to limit each other's power through a series of CAB, So no one could gain more power.
Legislative Branch Would create or pass laws.
Executive Branch Would lead the nation, enforce laws.
Judicial Branch Would Interpret laws.
Supreme Court Delegates agreed on a Judicial Branch headed by a SP
Roger Sherman Came up with the Great Compromise
Great Compromise A legislative branch with two houses.
Electoral College States would be granted a specific number of electors equal to their numbers of senators and representatives in Congress.
Three Fifths Compromise Convention delegates decided that five enslaved Americans would count as three free persons.
Slave Importation Clause Congress could not ban importation of slaves for 20 years and the tax on importing enslaved people could not go up $10 per person
Fugitive Slave Clause Barred people who had escaped slavery in the South from living as free people in Northern States.
Commerce Clause Gave Congress power "to regulate with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes."
Common Market No tax could be charged between states.
