Science test revision on energy
| What is the law of conservation? | Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed, transferred, or stored. |
| What is potential energy? | Stored in objects, to be transformed to other types of energies. |
| What are the three types of potential energy? | Gravitational energy, Elastic potential energy, and Chemical potential energy. |
| What is an example of potential energy? | The energy stored in fireworks is not apparent till it explodes - potential |
| What is kinetic energy? | The energy of motion, this means that any moving objects has kinetic energy. |
| What is useful energy? | The intended product of an energy transformation - the heat and air of a hairdryer. |
| What is wasted energy? | Any unwanted energy forms that are produced in an energy transformation, and doesn't matter - the sound from a hairdryer. |
| What is heat energy transfer? | Heat is energy in transit from an object or substance to another with a lower temperature. |
| What three different ways can heat move from substances? | Conduction, Convention, and radiation. |
| What is radiation? | The transfer of heat from electromagnetic waves, aka transferred via radiant heat - warmth from the sun, sitting by a fire. |
| What is conduction? | When heat is transferred by a substance flowing from a warmer area to a cooler area through direct contact between SOLID OBJECTS |
| What is convection? | When heat is transferred by a substance flowing from a warmer area to a cooler area in LIQUIDS OR GASES |
| What is the purpose of a Sankey diagram? | Shows us the amount of useful vs non useful energy produced in energy transformation |
| What does efficiency means when applying to energy transformations. | means the amount of useful energy produced, to be efficient than most of the energy should be useful |
| Electricity | The flow of electrons through wires that provide energy to components attached to an electrical circuit. |
| Electronic devices transform electrical energy into other types of energy. - is this true or false | yes |
| What are 2 everyday examples where energy is being used. | Solar panels, and a fridge. |
| Define Gravitational potential energy | The energy stored in an object due to its position within a gravitational field. - eg, a roller coaster at the top of a big drop. |
| Define Elastic potential energy | Elastic potential energy is the energy stored in an elastic material or spring when compressed or extended. - eg, a trampoline when you land, this potential energy converts into kinetic which propels you into the air. |
| Define Chemical potential energy | Chemical potential energy is the energy stored within objects, created when atoms and molecules bond. - eg, batteries |
