Iranian Revolution & Hostage Crisis (1979–1981) What happened Iranians overthrew the Shah and set up a religious government. Angry students took over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and held 52 Americans hostage for over a year.
Iranian Revolution & Hostage Crisis/ outcome Outcome The Shah was removed, the U.S. and Iran stopped friendly relations, and the hostages were freed after 444 days.
Persian Gulf War (1991) What happened Iraq invaded Kuwait for its oil. The U.S. led an attack to drive them out. Outcome Kuwait was freed, and Iraq faced heavy punishments.
War in Afghanistan (2001–2021) what happened The U.S. invaded after 9/11 to stop terrorists and remove the Taliban. Outcome The Taliban were removed but later took back control.
War in Iraq (2003–2011) What happened The U.S. invaded, saying Iraq had dangerous weapons. Outcome Saddam was removed, but fighting and instability continued.
Arab Spring (2010–2012) What happened Citizens protested unfair leaders and wanted more freedom. Outcome Some leaders fell, others stayed; some countries faced war.
