TermDefinition
Bicameral having 2 chambers or houses in a legislature
Republic A form of government with elected officials and not a monarch.
Ordinance An ordinance is a law or rule made by a local government.
Depreciate Something losing value over time.
Depression a severe and prolonged downturn in economic activity
Manumission Manumission means the act of freeing someone from slavery or servitude.
Proportional When both sides make an agreement of equal value.
Federalism a system of government in which power is divided and shared between two levels
Legislative Branch the part of government that makes laws.
Executive Branch the part of government responsible for implementing and enforcing laws.
Electoral College the system the United States uses to elect the President and Vice President. Instead of a direct popular vote, voters choose electors who then cast the official votes for these offices.
Judicial Branch the part of government responsible for interpreting laws and ensuring justice.
Check and Balances a system in government designed to ensure that no single branch becomes too powerful.
Amendment a formal change or addition made to a law, constitution, or legal document.
