Bicameral means having two chambers or houses in a legislature.
Republic is a form of government where the people elect representatives to make laws and govern on their behalf, and there is no king or monarch.
Ordinance is a law or rule made by a local government, like a city or town.
Depreciate decrease in the value of money or goods over time.
Depression is a long period of severe economic decline with high unemployment and low business activity.
Manumission is the act of a slave owner freeing their slaves.
Proportional means having a size or amount that is relative or balanced in comparison to something else.
Compromise is an agreement where each side gives up something to settle a disagreement.
Federalism is a system where power is shared between a national government and state or local governments.
Legislative Branch is the part of government that makes laws.
Executive Branch is the part of government that enforces and carries out laws.
Electoral College is a group of people who officially elect the president and vice president of the United States.
Judicial Branch is the part of government that interprets laws and decides if they follow the constitution.
Check and Balances is a system where each branch of government can limit the powers of the others to keep things fair.
Amendment is a change or addition made to a law or the Constitution.
Federalism Shared power between national and state governments.
