Answer
Republic: A government where people choose their leaders by voting.
Ordinance: A law or rule made by a city or local government.
Depreciate: To lose value over time.
Depression: A long period when the economy is very bad and many people have no jobs or money.
Manumission: The act of freeing someone from slavery.
Proportional: When something is divided fairly based on size or amount.
Compromise: An agreement where each side gives up a little to reach a solution.
Federalism: A system where power is shared between a national government and state governments.
Legislative Branch: The part of government that makes the laws (in the U.S)
Executive Branch: The part of government that carries out and enforces the laws (led by the President).
Electoral College: The group of people who officially vote for the President and Vice President of the United
Judicial Branch: The part of government that decides what laws mean and makes sure they follow the Constitution (includes the Supreme Court).
Checks and Balances: A system that makes sure no branch of government gets too powerful each branch can limit the power of the others.
Amendment: A change or addition to a law or the Constitution.
