| Bicameral | a government body with two separate chambers or houses |
| Republic | a government in which the power belongs to a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by the leaders and representatives elected by those citizens to govern according to law |
| Ordinance | a law set forth by a governmental authority |
| Depreciate | to deduct from taxable income a portion of the original cost of (a business asset) over several years as the value of the asset decreases |
| Depression | long-lasting period of greatly reduced general economic activity marked especially by widespread unemployment and declines in trade and production and often by deflation |
| Manumission | formal emancipation from slavery |
