TermDefinition
Bicameral Bicameral means having 2 branches or chambers
Republic a government in which the power belongs to a body of citizens that are allowed to vote and controlled by the representatives elected by the body of citizens.
ordinance a law set forth by a government authority
Depreciate to deduct from taxable income a portion of the original cost of (a business asset) over several years as the value of the asset decreases
Depression a long-lasting period of greatly reduced general economic activity marked especially by widespread unemployment and declines in trade and production and often by deflation
Manumission: the act or process of releasing from slavery
Proportional: corresponding in size, degree, or intensity
Compromise: settlement of differences by arbitration or by consent reached by mutual concessions
Federalism: the distribution of power in an organization (such as a government) between a central authority and the constituent
Legislative Branch: the branch of government responsible for making laws
Executive Branch: The branch of government is responsible for implanting and enforcing laws
Electoral College: Selection of electors. Meeting of electors who cast votes for the president and vice president. Counting of the electors' votes by Congress.
Judicial Branch: The judicial branch is one of three branches of the U.S. government that interprets laws and administers justice through the court system
Check and Balances: Checks and balances are a system where each branch of government has the power to limit or influence the actions of the other branches, preventing any single entity from becoming too powerful.
Amendment: An amendment is a formal change made to a legal document, such as a contract, law, or the U.S. Constitution
