| Dermal Tissue | Forms the protective outer layer of a plant. |
| Ground Tissue | Makes up much of the inside of the nonwoody parts of a plant, including roots, stems, and leaves. |
| Cork | Dermal tissue on woody stems and roots consists of several layers of dead cells. |
| Vessels | Gnetophytes and flowing plants that have a second type of xylem cell. |
| Sieve tubes | Conducting strands in phloem. |
| Cortex | Ground tissue surrounding the vascular tissue |
| Root hairs | Slender projections of the cell membrane |
| Root cap | Covers and protects the actively growing root tip |
| Herbaceous plant | A plant with stems that are flexible and usually green |
| Vascular bundle | The stems of herbaceous plants contain bundles of xylem and phloem. |
| Pith | The ground tissue inside the ring |
| Heartwood | The wood in the center of a mature stem or tree trunk |
| Sapwood | Contains vessel cells that can conduct water. |
| Petiole | Leaves with a flattened portion that is often attached to a stem by a stalk |
| Mesophyll | The ground tissue in leaves. |
| Transpiration | The loss of water vapor from a plant |

| Sink | To refer to a part of a plant that organic compounds are delivered to |
| Translocation | The movement of organic compounds within a plant from a source to a sink |
