Connecticut founded in 1653, founded by Thomas hooker, colony could vote no matter religion.
Jamestown Virginia-1606, founded by the Virginia company, to find gold and silver.
Massachusetts 1630, John Winthrop, puritans- safe place.
New hampshire 1623, sir ferdinando gorges, to style a debt.
Deleware 1681, William Penn, he needed water access to the Atlantic ocean.
New Jersey 1664, George carteret and Lord Berkley, east and west Jersey were combined to make a royal colony.
New York 1664, dutch, the fur trade for dutch and English.
Pennsylvania 1681, William Penn, for his people to live in peace.
Maryland 1638/1682 William Penn, to let pennsylvania get water access.
Rhode Island 1636, Roger williams, separation of church he wanted state freedom of religion. he also purchased land from the natives.
Georgia 1733, James Oglethorpe, protect South Carolina.
North Carolina 1653, the unwanted, protect South Carolina from invasion, nowhere to go.
South Carolina 1670, 8 friends of Charles the second, to make money back by farming (grew rice).
