QuestionAnswer
apostrophe writing that addresses a person or thing that is not present
content the words or subject of a piece of writing

stanza a section of a poem, consists of a line or group of lines
stanza break the blank space that divides two stanzas from each other
anaphora the repetition of words at the start of a series of lines in a poem
excerpt a small part of a larger work, for example, one chapter of a novel or one paragraph of a newspaper article
tone the attitude of apiece of writing, expressed through the style of writing and the words the author uses
figurative language words or phrases that mean more than their dictionary definition, similes and metaphors are two examples of figurative language
metaphor a comparison without using like or as
simile a comparison of two different things using the words like or as
rhyme words that end in the same sound or sounds
rhyme scheme the pattern of repeated rhyming words in a poem
