Who was Samuel Adams? He believed that Parliament could not tax the colonists without their permission.
What was the Committees of Correspondence? members shared ideas and information about the new British Laws and ways to challenge them
What was the Stamp Act? This act required colonists to pay for an official stamp, or seal, when they bought paper items
What was the Boston Massacre? A shooting that occurred after tensions boiled over between British Soldiers and Boston protester.
What was the Tea Act? Allowed the British East India Company to sell tea directly to the colonist.
What was the Boston Tea Party? protest where American colonists boarded British ships and dumped tea into Boston Harbor to protest unfair British taxes and the Tea Act
What was the Intolerable Acts? Parliament decided to punish Boston and passed the Coercive Acts
What was the Quartering Act? This act required colonist to house British Soldiers.
What was the Continental Congress? This was a gathering of colonial leaders who were deeply troubled about the relationship between Great Britain and its colonies.
What were Patriots? Colonists who chose to fight for independence from Great Britain.
Who were Minutemen? Those who got their name because they were ready to fight at a minutes notice.
Who were Redcoats? For sometime colonist had called the British soldiers Redcoats because of their jackets.
What was the second continental Congress? In May of 1775 delegates from 12 colonies met again in Philadelphia for the second Continental Congress.
What was the Continental Army? This force would soon include soldiers from all colonies and would carry out the fight against Britain.
Who was The commander of the Continental Army? George Washinton
What was common sense? Plain spoken argument against British rule over America.
Who was the author of Common Sense? Thomas Paine
The Declaration of Independence did what? Formally announced the colonies break from Great Britain.
Who was the main author if the Declaration of Independence? Thomas Jefferson
Loyalists were considered? Colonists who chose to side with the British- also known as Tories
Why did Great Britain Raise taxes in the Colonies? War Debts
What was the purpose of the tea act? To allow the British East India Company seel surplus tea
Why did parliament pass the intolerable acts? To bring order to the colonies
How did King George respond the the Olive Branch Petition? He refused it!
What does the shot heard around the world refer to? The start of the American Revolution
Who was Paul Revere? A colonists who warned colonists of the approaching British Troops/
Who helped organize the Continental Army at Valley Forge? Baron Von Steuben
The First Battle of the American Revolution happened where? Lexington and Concord
The mountain boys captured what base? Fort Ticonderoga
