Atom The smallest basic unit of matter
Element One particular type of atom
Proton Have positive electrical charge
Neutron Have no charge
Electron Have negative electrical charge
Isotope Each of two or more forms of the same element that contain equal numbers of protons but different numbers of neutrons in their nuclei
Ion Atom that has gained or lost one or more electrons
Compound A substance made of atoms of different elements bonded together in a certain ratio
Molecule Two or more atoms held together by covalent bonds
Ionic Bond Forms through the electrical force between oppositely charged ions
Covalent Bond Forms when atoms share a pair of electrons
