| Atom | smallest unit of matter |
| Element | Pure substance consisting only of atoms that all have the same number of protons |
| Proton | positively charged subatomic particles found in nucleus |
| Neutron | Uncharged particles in the nucleus |
| Electron | Negatively charged particles that orbit the nucleus |
| Isotope | An atom in a chemical element that has the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons compared to other atoms in the chemical element |
| Ion | an atom with a positive or negative electrical charge because it has lost or gained electrons |
| Compound | a substance made up of two or more elements combined chemically |
| Molecule | a group of atoms held together by chemical bonds |
| Ionic Bond | a bond made from the attraction between oppositely charged ions, which occurs when one atom transfers one or more electrons to another |
| Covalent Bond | a chemical bond formed made by the sharing of electrons between atoms |
