Who was Christopher Columbus? First European to trave WEST to try to get to the INdies, but he never realized the land he "found" wasn't Asia.
Who was Amerigo Vespucci? First European to realize North and South America were not Asia and had the "New World" named after him.
Who was Ponce De Leon? Explored Florida, supposedly looking for the "Fountain of Youth."
Who was Vasco Nunez De Balboa? "Found" the Pacific Ocean through Central America and claimed all the land it touched for Spain.
Who was Ferdinand Magellan? Lead the expedition that circumnavigated the world.
Who was John Cabot? Sent by England to look for a Northwest Passage to the Indies and "found" and named "Newfoundland."
Who was Jaques Cartier? Sent by France to find a Northwest Passage to the Indies and developed a friendly trading relationship with Natives along the St. Lawrence River.
Who was Hernando Cortes? Ruthlessly conquered the Aztecs and renamed thier captial Mexico City, making Spain tvery rich and powerful.
Who was Henry Hudson? Sailed for the Netherlands and England looking for a Northwest Passage to the Indies. "Found" Hudson Bay, but was set adrift by his own crew.
What are three reasons for European exploration in the 1400-1500's? To spread the Christian religion. To find better routes to the Indies. To gain more land and riches for their country.
What was the Columbian Exchange? The trading of goods between Europe and America.

What are some BAD things that were brought FROM Europe TO America? Deseases like Small Pox
