Figurative Language

QuestionAnswer
metaphor comparing two things WITHOUT using "like" or "as" Ex: "He is a night owl" means someone who stays up super late.
Onomatopoeia Sound words Ex: Clink, Crash, Bang, Boom
personification Giving human actions to non-human things Ex: "The sun is playing hide-and-seek today" (It means that day was sunny and cloudy)
simile comparing two things using "like" or "as" Ex: As cold as ice
hyperbole dramatic exaggeration Ex: I'll be there in two seconds (when you know it'll take more than 2 seconds to get somewhere)
alliteration Same sounds at the beginning of a phrase Ex: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
