What is the music of language/speech? Paralanguage
What are nonverbal communications? (tone of voice), speed of speech, position of speaker’s extremities and torso
What is an Advance Directive? A legal document that provides an individual a means to direct health care if a situation occurs in which they are unable to make decisions.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs: Lowest to highest: Physiologic (food, shelter, clothing, sexual gratification), Safety, belongingness and love, esteem, need to know and understand, aesthetics, self-actualization
The difference between inpatient and outpatient: Inpatient: someone who has been admitted to the hospital for diagnostic studies or treatment Outpatient: patient who comes to a health care facility for diagnosis or treatment but does not usually occupy a bed overnight
When the patient has had pain for more than one month it is: Chronic pain
What is important when taking a patient history? To maintain a polite and professional demeanor when gathering information.
What is considered objective data regarding patient history? Respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature, 02 saturation, other vitals
What are the sacred seven? Localization, Chronology, Quality, Severity, Onset, Aggravating or alleviating factors, associated manifestations.
What kind of questions are inappropriate to ask the patient? Leading questions
How do you change your behavior with a patient when they begin speaking to you in medical terminology? You don’t. Politely listen, record the patient’s comments, and repeat their statements to clarify.
What would be a good question to ask a patient regarding abdominal pain for the x-ray? “Can you touch the area that hurts?”
What questions should be asked to rule out appendicitis? "How would you describe the pain?" and "Can you touch the area that specifically hurts?"
What questions do radiologists want answered? Why is the patient having this examination? What is the patient's chief complaint?
What do you do when you notice swelling in the back of the head of a patient when doing a nasal bone series? Record the swelling on the requisition and ask the patient what kind of injury they experienced.
