| Editing | The process by which the editor combines indivual shots into a cinematic whole |
| Scene | A group of related shots, usually limited to one setting and a group of characters |
| Sequence | A group of related scenes |
| Cutting | The actual joining together of two shots |
| Continuity Editing | Tells a story as clearly and coherently as possible |
| 180 degree system | The camera remains consistently on one side of the line of action |
| Shot/Reverse Shot | Crosscutting between shots of two different characters, usually in a conversation and confrontation |
| Two-Shot | Shows two characters |
| Crosscutting/Intercutting/Parallel Editing | Cutting between two or more lines of action |
| Montage | A sequence of shots showing a condensed series of event |
