Zero Conditional – structure If + Present Simple, Present Simple
Zero Conditional – use General truths or scientific facts
If you heat water, it boils. Jeśli podgrzewasz wodę, ona wrze.
If it rains, the grass gets wet. Jeśli pada, trawa robi się mokra.
If you touch fire, it burns. Jeśli dotkniesz ognia, parzy.
If you mix blue and yellow, you get green. Jeśli zmieszasz niebieski i żółty, otrzymasz zielony.
If people eat too much, they get fat. Jeśli ludzie jedzą za dużo, tyją.
If you don’t water plants, they die. Jeśli nie podlewasz roślin, one umierają.
Zero Conditional – keywords Always, whenever, every time
First Conditional – structure If + Present Simple, will + infinitive
First Conditional – use Real and possible situations in the future
If it rains, we will stay at home. Jeśli będzie padać, zostaniemy w domu.
If I study hard, I will pass the test. Jeśli będę się pilnie uczyć, zdam test.
If you hurry, you will catch the bus. Jeśli się pospieszysz, złapiesz autobus.
If she calls me, I will answer. Jeśli do mnie zadzwoni, odbiorę.
If you don’t eat, you will be hungry later. Jeśli nie zjesz, będziesz później głodny.
First Conditional – keywords Tomorrow, next week, soon, later
Second Conditional – structure If + Past Simple, would + infinitive
Second Conditional – use Unreal or imaginary situations in the present or future
If I had a car, I would drive to work. Gdybym miał samochód, jeździłbym do pracy.
If it were sunny, we would go to the beach. Gdyby było słonecznie, poszlibyśmy na plażę.
If I knew her, I would talk to her. Gdybym ją znał, porozmawiałbym z nią.
If I were you, I would study more. Na twoim miejscu więcej bym się uczył.
If he didn’t live so far, we would visit him. Gdyby nie mieszkał tak daleko, odwiedzalibyśmy go.
Second Conditional – keywords Would, could, might
Third Conditional – structure If + Past Perfect, would have + past participle
Third Conditional – use Unreal situations in the past (regret, imagination)
If I had studied, I would have passed the exam. Gdybym się uczył, zdałbym egzamin.
If it had rained, we would have stayed at home. Gdyby padało, zostalibyśmy w domu.
If she had known, she would have told you. Gdyby wiedziała, powiedziałaby ci.
If they had left earlier, they would have arrived on time. Gdyby wyszli wcześniej, dotarliby na czas.
If he had seen me, he would have said hello. Gdyby mnie zobaczył, przywitałby się.
Third Conditional – keywords Would have, could have, might have
Mixed Conditional – structure If + Past Perfect, would + infinitive
Mixed Conditional – use Past condition with a present result
If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now. Gdybym studiował medycynę, byłbym teraz lekarzem.
If I hadn’t eaten so much, I wouldn’t feel sick now. Gdybym tyle nie zjadł, nie czułbym się teraz źle.
If she had moved to London, she would live there now. Gdyby przeprowadziła się do Londynu, mieszkałaby tam teraz.
If we had saved money, we would be rich now. Gdybyśmy oszczędzali pieniądze, bylibyśmy teraz bogaci.
If I had taken the job, I would be happy now. Gdybym przyjął tę pracę, byłbym teraz szczęśliwy.
Common mistake – Zero Conditional Don’t use “will”: ❌ If you will heat water... ✅ If you heat water...
Common mistake – First Conditional Don’t use “will” after “if”: ✅ If I see her, I will say hi.
Common mistake – Second Conditional Use past tense, not would in both parts: ✅ If I were rich, I would travel.
Common mistake – Third Conditional Use “had” + past participle: ✅ If I had known, not ❌ If I would have known.
Difference between First and Second Conditional First = real future, Second = imaginary present/future
Difference between Second and Third Conditional Second = unreal present/future, Third = unreal past

Conditional summary 0 = facts, 1 = real future, 2 = unreal now, 3 = unreal past, mixed = past → present
