| Homeostasis | The body’s way of keeping internal conditions stable, like temperature and blood sugar, even when the environment changes. |
| Atom | The smallest unit of matter that makes up all substances. Atoms combine to form molecules, which build cells and tissues. |
| Epithelial Tissue | A type of tissue that covers body surfaces and lines organs, protecting the body and helping with absorption and secretion. |
| Muscle Tissue | Tissue made of fibers that contract to produce movement. There are three types: skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. |
| Neuron | A nerve cell that sends electrical and chemical messages through the nervous system to control body functions. |
| Synapse | The small space between two neurons where neurotransmitters carry signals from one cell to another. |
| Hormone | A chemical messenger made by glands that travels through the bloodstream to regulate body functions like growth or metabolism. |
| Alveoli | Tiny air sacs in the lungs where oxygen passes into the blood and carbon dioxide leaves the body. |
| Nephron | The functional unit of the kidney that filters blood, removes waste, and makes urine. |
| Homeostatic Imbalance | When the body can’t maintain stable internal conditions, leading to illness or disease (like dehydration or diabetes). |
