QuestionAnswer
What is facilitation? The process of helping a group of people to discover and understand their common objectives of goals, then assisting them in developing a plan to do so.
SMART Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound
Forming Meeting one another for the first time, facilitator is more dominant. Discuss goals and establish ground rules.
Storming Boundaries are pushed and conflicts may arise due to different personality types an uneven workloads.
Norming Differences have been resolved, participants begin to work toward a common goal. Participants begin to speak with one another and enjoy eachothers company.
Performing The group works together without friction. Participants should feel at ease, and apart of the group.
Adjourning The project ends and the group disbands.
Group v individual goals Group goals will be the same for all members. Individual goals will vary depending on what each person wants to achieve.
Group dynamics. DRCCST Decision Making Respect Conflict Resolution Communication Safety Trust
Signs of Conflict BEADIC Blame Game, Emotional Outbursts, Avoidances, Decreased Productivity, Increased Tension, Communication Breakdown.
Latent Not yet aware of conflict, may be hidden issues and frustration that could show at any time.
Perceived Conflict The conflict has become known.
Felt Individuals sense the conflict brewing, frustration and anxiety begin to show.
Manifest Conflict becomes visable and is expressed through behaviours such as arguments and disagreements.
Aftermath Where the conflict is resolved. Win win = improved relationships. Negative resolution may damage relationships and threaten group disbandment.
Low Level Manageable, usually caused by preferences and misunderstandings, open communication and discussion
Medium Level Caused by significant differences in opinions goals and values. Causes disruptions tension and hostility. Managed through negotiation and comms
High level Caused by deep rooted disagreements and unresolved issues. Serious threat to cohesion and effectiveness Intervention is required.
Critical level The group can become dysfunctional, hostile or breakdown completely. Immediate intervention is needed to avoid long lasting relationship damage.
Conflict Resolution CCCNEMP Communication, Compromise, Collaboration, Negotiation, Empathy, Mediation Problem Solving.
Laissez-Faire Hands off Gives members freedom allows them to be trusted. Provides guidance and resources when needed
Participative All members are encouraged to participate in discussions and share their ideas. Group members have a sense of ownership in project and decisions made.
Authoritarian They make all decisions with little to no group input All group members are controlled Everything goes through the leader.
Transformative Inspires and motivates group by providing them with a shared vision by creating a supportive and empowering environment.
Barriers to Cohesion PPPLC Poorly defined boundaries R+R, Personality clashes, Poor communication, Lack of comms, Conflict between individual and group goals.
Mentoring The process of transferring knowledge or skills from one person to another.
