feedback control loop A feedback control loop regulates body balance by detecting changes, sending signals, and adjusting processes through negative or positive feedback.
Pathology Pathology is the medical study of diseases, focusing on their causes, development, body changes, and effects on health.
Hydrophilic Hydrophilic describes molecules or substances that dissolve in water easily because they are attracted to and interact with water.
Catabolism Catabolism is the breakdown of large molecules into smaller ones, releasing energy the body uses for movement, growth, and repair.
The central nervous system The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord, controlling thoughts, emotions, movement, and body functions by processing information.
The autonomic nervous system The autonomic nervous system controls involuntary body functions like heartbeat, breathing, digestion, and glands, keeping the body balanced automatically.
axon An axon is a neuron’s long fiber that transmits electrical impulses away from the cell body to other cells
stimulus-gated channel A stimulus-gated channel is a membrane protein that opens or closes when activated by specific signals like chemicals, light, or pressure.
metabotropic receptor A metabotropic receptor is a cell receptor that activates internal chemical pathways, using second messengers, instead of directly opening channels.
neurotransmitter A neurotransmitter is a chemical messenger that carries signals between nerve cells, helping control mood, movement, learning, and body functions.
