What is homeostasis? The body’s ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite external changes.
What is the function of the autonomic nervous system? It controls involuntary functions like heart rate, digestion, and breathing.
What are the three phases of an action potential? Depolarization, repolarization, and hyperpolarization.
What ion leaves the neuron during repolarization? Potassium (K⁺) leaves the neuron.
What ion enters the neuron during depolarization? Sodium (Na⁺) enters the neuron.
What are the two divisions of the autonomic nervous system? The sympathetic (“fight or flight”) and parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) systems
What is the all-or-none principle? Once threshold is reached, an action potential fires completely or not at all.
What is the function of the cell membrane? It controls what enters and leaves the cell and helps maintain homeostasis.
What is the main function of ribosomes? They are the site of protein synthesis.
What are electrolytes? Minerals in body fluids that carry an electrical charge, such as sodium, potassium, and calcium.
