Human Physiology flash cards

QuestionAnswer
Homeostasis It keeps everything balanced and stable by keeping the same body temperature, blood pressure, and enrgy levels no matter what happens outside the body.
Biomolecules The basic building blocks that make up living things like proteins, carbs, fats, and nucleic acids.
DNA The genetic code that tells your body how to grow and and fuction, basically instructing your body what to do.
Tissues Groups of similar cells that work together to work in your body, like muscle tissue or nerve tissue for signals.
Skin Cells Cells that make up your skin which help protect body. The skin also absorbs Vitamins A, D, and K that keep it healthy and strong
Neurons Nerve cells that send messages through your body so you can think, move, and feel things.
Integumentary System The system that includes your skin, hair, and nails, it protects your body and helps regulate temperature.
Mucous Membrane The moist lining found in places like your mouth, nose, and stomach that helps protect and trap germs or dirt.
Skeletal Tissues The tissues that make up your bones and support your body’s structure and movement.
Cartilage A smooth, rubbery tissue that cushions joints and connects bones, it helps you move without pain or friction.
Myosin and Actin Two special proteins in your muscles that work together to make them contract so you can move
Sarcoplasmic reticulum The storage unit inside muscle cells that hold calcium. it releases calcium when your brain tells your muscles to move. and then it takes it back to keep the muscle relaxed.
