TermDefinition
Anatomy The study of body structure and the relationships between body parts.
Physiology The study of how the body parts function and work together to maintain life.
Homeostasis The body’s ability to maintain internal stability despite external changes.
Metabolism All the chemical reactions that occur within the body’s cells.
Negative Feedback A control mechanism that reverses a change to maintain balance (ex: body temperature regulation
Positive Feedback A control mechanism that strengthens or increases a change (ex: childbirth contractions).
Cell Membrane he outer boundary of the cell that controls what enters and exits.
Osmosis The movement of water through a selectively permeable membrane from high to low water concentration.
Active Transport The movement of substances across a membrane using energy (ATP), often against a concentration gradient.
