| Negative Feedback | A control mechanism that reverses a change in a controlled condition to restore homeostasis (e.g., body temperature regulation). |
| Positive Feedback | A mechanism that strengthens or reinforces a change until an endpoint is reached (e.g., childbirth or blood clotting). |
| Cell Membrane | A selectively permeable barrier that controls what enters and leaves the cell. |
| Mitochondria | Organelles that produce ATP, the cell’s main energy source, through cellular respiration. |
| Ribosomes | Small organelles responsible for protein synthesis. |
| Tissue | A group of similar cells that perform a specific function. |
| Epithelial Tissue | Covers body surfaces, lines cavities, and forms glands. |
| Connective Tissue | Supports, protects, and binds other tissues (includes bone, blood, and cartilage). |
| Muscle Tissue | Specialized to contract and produce movement; types include skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. |
| Nervous Tissue | Composed of neurons and neuroglia; functions in communication and control of body activities. |
| Integumentary System | Consists of skin, hair, nails, and glands; protects the body, helps regulate temperature, and detects sensations. |
| Dermis | The middle layer of skin that contains connective tissue, blood vessels, and sensory receptors. |
