| Homeostatic Imbalance | When the body’s internal environment becomes unstable — can lead to illness or disease. |
| Negative Feedback | A control system that maintains stability by reversing a change (for example, sweating when you’re hot). |
| Positive Feedback | A process that strengthens or increases a change (for example, contractions during childbirth). |
| Dorsal Cavity | The body cavity that includes the cranial (brain) and spinal (spinal cord) cavities |
| Ventral Cavity | The body cavity that includes the thoracic (chest) and abdominopelvic cavities. |
| Midsagittal Plane | A plane that divides the body into equal right and left halves. |
| Transverse Plane | A plane that divides the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) parts. |
| Organ System | A group of organs that work together to perform major body functions (for example, the digestive system or respiratory system). |
| Cytology | The study of cells — their structure, function, and chemistry. |
| Abdominopelvic Cavity | A large cavity below the diaphragm that contains organs like the stomach, liver, and intestines |
