What is the term for the body’s ability to maintain stable internal conditions despite changes in the external environment? The body’s way of keeping things balanced inside (like temperature, pH, and pressure) so cells can function properly.
Why is it important for our body to maintain the same temperature, pressure, and oxygen level all the time? Because our cells can’t function properly when internal conditions change too much imbalance leads to sickness or even death.
What are the basic units of matter that make up everything, including the human body? Atoms and molecules — they’re the building blocks of all matter, including the structures in our body.
What are biomolecules? Large, complex molecules made by living organisms like carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins that perform vital functions in the body.
What is the basic functional unit of the body? The cell — it performs all essential life processes that keep the body alive and functioning.
What is another term for an articulation? A joint — the point of contact between bones where movement or stability occurs.
What is a tissue in the context of anatomy & physiology? A tissue is a group of similar cells that work together to carry out a common function — the term literally means “fabric” of the body.
What does epithelial tissue do? Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces, lines cavities and ducts, and forms glands — it acts as a barrier and/or interface between different environments.
What two highly adapted connective tissues make up the skeleton? Bone and cartilage — they form the rigid and flexible framework that supports and shapes the body.
What is the main focus of skeletal system physiology this week? Understanding how bone and cartilage function as specialized connective tissues in the skeleton.
