QuestionAnswer
What is the plasma membrane? The thin outer layer of a cell that controls what enters and leaves.
Fluid Mosaic Model Describes the cell membrane as flexible and made of moving lipids and proteins that form a mosaic pattern.
What does selectively permeable mean? The membrane allows some substances to pass but blocks others.
What are the three main layers of skin? Epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis (subcutaneous layer).
Skeletal System The body’s framework made of bones that support, protect, and help with movement.
What are the five main functions of the skeletal system? Support, protection, movement, mineral storage, and blood cell formation (hematopoiesis).
What are osteoblasts and osteoclasts? Osteoblasts build bone; osteoclasts break down bone.
What are myosin and actin? Protein filaments that slide past each other to make muscles contract.
The energy molecule needed for muscle contraction is ATP (adenosine triphosphate)
What pigment gives skin its color? Melanin, produced by melanocytes.
