Physical exam signs
| Term | Definition |

| Obturator sign | pelvic inflammation or infection (appendix); supine flex right hip/knee to 90 degrees & passively internal rotate the hip; + test if RLQ pain, - test if hip or back pain |
| Blumberg's sign | rebound tenderness for visceral pathology; choose area away from painful area, fingers perpendicular to abdomen, push down deep and slow then lift up quickly |
| McBurney's point | 1/3-1/2 the distance between the right ASIS & umbilicus |
| Murphy's sign | gallbladder location; hook fingers under the right aspect of the ribcage; patient takes a deep breath as you ease your fingers into the viscera; + if pain prior to reaching full inspiration |
| AAA palpation | supine with hips/knees flexed, palpate abdomen halfway between umbilicus/xyphoid just midline to the L of midline; press firm/deep to palpate the pulsation of the aorta; + if aorta width greater than 2-3cm |
| Lhermitte's sign | screen for possible upper motor neuron lesion (associated with MS) & myelopathy; in sitting, tuck chin to chest; + test= sharp, electric shock like pain down spine and sometimes into UE |
| C3-5 | Diaphragm; refers to C-spine |
| T1-5 | Heart; refers to anterior neck, chest, left UE |
| T4-6 | Esophagus; refers to substernal & upper abdomen |
| T5-6 | Lungs; refers to T spine |
| T6-10 | Stomach, refers to upper abdomen & T spine; pancreas, refers to upper abdomen, low T spine, & upper L spine; Bile duct, refers to upper abdomen, mid T spine |

| T10-11 | testes/ovaries, refers to lower abdomen & sacrum |
| T10-L1 | Kidney, refers to L spine, abdomen |
| T10-L1, S2-4 | Uterus/prostate, refers to T/L & L/S junction sacrum, testes, T/L jct |
| T11-L2, S2-4 | Ureter, refers to groin, suprapubic, medial thigh; Bladder, refers to sacral apex, suprapubic |
