QuestionAnswer
What is an articulation? joint where two or more bones meet, allowing movement or providing stability.
What are the three structural types of joints? Fibrous, cartilaginous, and synovial joints.
What molecule provides the energy for muscle contraction? ATP (adenosine triphosphate).
What role does calcium play in muscle contraction? Calcium binds to troponin, causing tropomyosin to move and expose actin binding sites for myosin.
What are the two main types of bone tissue? Compact bone and spongy bone.
What is the function of the skeletal system? Provides structure, protects organs, stores minerals, and enables movement.
What are the four main types of tissues in the human body? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissues.
What are the two main layers of the skin? Epidermis (outer layer) and dermis (inner layer).
What is mitosis? The process by which a cell divides to produce two identical daughter cells for growth and repair.
What is the synapse? The junction where a neuron communicates with another cell using neurotransmitters.
