Which is the most important monosaccharide? Glucose - Because it is the primary energy source for all cells especially the brain and red blood cells.
What is ATP? The form of energy that cells generally use.
Which substances are organic? lipids, carbohydrates, proteins.
What is a feedback control loop? A highly complex and integrated communication control system .
How is the body able to maintain and / or restore homeostasis? Homeostatic control mechanisms
What is positive feedback? Events that lead to an immune response to an infection or the formation of a blood clot.
Which body systems are involved in maintaining homeostasis? Circulatory, Endocrine, Lymphatic.
What is Meiosis? A specialized type of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes by half to produce sex cells.
What happens as a result of Mitosis? Cells that are genetically identical to the parent cell.
What is the total number of chromosomes? 46
What is a hypertonic solution? A saline solution that contains a higher concentration of salt than a red blood cell.
How does water move through the cell membrane? Osmosis
What creates fingerprints on the skin? The papillary layer of the dermis
What are some functions of epithelial tissue? Absorption, Secretion, Protection
What are some essential functions of the skin? Regulation of body temperature, excretion of water and salts, defense against disease organisms.
What is the hypodermis? It is the deepest layer of skin by which connects the dermis to underlying tissues.
What is osteoporosis? An age related skeletal disease that is characterized by loss of bone mineral density and increased bone fragility.
Which two hormones are involved in blood calcium levels? Parathryoid and calcitonin
Which cells are responsible for active erosion of bone minerals? Osteoclasts
What is the name for Cross bridges? Myosin heads
Which joint allows for the widest range of movement? Ball & Socket
What is ATP? The energy required for muscular contraction is obtained by hydrolysis.
What are some functions of muscles? posture, heat production, movement
How is muscle tone maintained? Negative feed back mechanisms.
