| Ghost | An undead spirit that haunts houses. They say "Boo!" |
| Skeleton | The hard inner frame of a person's or animal's body, made of bones that join together. |
| Vampire | An undead creature who sleeps in a coffin by day, and goes out at night to bite people and drink their blood. Scare them away with garlic! |
| Witch | A person with magical powers. They fly on broomsticks, make potions in cauldrons, and can curse you! |
| Werewolf | A person who becomes a wolfman under the full moon. If you are bitten by one, then you become one, too! |
| Zombie | An undead, flesh and brain eating creature. They crawl out of graves in search of fresh humans to eat! |
| Mummy | A person who died and was wrapped in bandages. They come from Egypt! |
| Jack 'o lantern | A lantern carved from a pumpkin, with a candle inside. Some have happy faces, some have scary faces! |
| Spider | An insect with eight legs that makes webs. |
| Coffin | A box or container for the dead. It is buried underground and marked with a tombstone. Vampires sleep in them! |
| Tombstone | A stone placed to mark where a coffin is buried. It says the name, date of birth, and date of death of the person buried. |
| Bat | A small flying animal with wings, sharp teeth, and pointy ears. Vampires can turn into them! |
| Trick-or-treat | A Halloween custom where children dress up in costumes and visit people's houses in search of sweets. |
| Costume | An outfit worn for fun at Halloween in order to look like something you're not. |
| Halloween | The night of October 31st, celebrated by children dressing up in masks and costumes to go trick-or-treating. It comes from the Celtic festival "Samhain", when ghosts and spirits were believed to be awake and among us. |
| Sweets | Candy or treats given out at Halloween. |
| Autumn | The season that comes after summer and before winter. Also known as "fall" in the USA. |
