| Term | Definition |

| philtre | an infusion meant to be aphrodisiacal in nature; also known as a love potion |
| infusion | water based, created through the steeping and/or dissolution of ingredients |
| decoction | water based, a more concentrated infusion whose ingredients are simmered/boiled for far longer and is reduced to remove excess water |
| tincture | alcohol based, highly concentrated infusion that must be diluted or used in small amounts |
| vinegar | a liquid made from the fermentation of carbohydrate dense plant material that converts the sugars into acetic acid; it can be infused and is also antimicrobial |
| syropp/syrup | a sugar solution in which ingredients are infused or suspended within |
| poultice | a paste of chopped ingredients with an active binding agent of water, infusions, or vinegar; meant to be absorbent, topical, covered with a cloth/compress, and is to remain in place on the skin for the duration of its use |
| fomentation | a warm, infused cloth; also known as a heated poultice, but is replaced intermittently |
| salve | a semi-solid, fat based cream/ointment that is infused with ingredients and is placed topically like a lotion |
