What is homeostasis? Relatively stable maintenance of a body parameter.
Homeostatic control system: Purpose is to keep parameter at a set point
How is the body organized? Chemical, cellular, and tissue level
Homeostasis is dynamic not: A static process
Feedback systems A common mechanism to control physiological processes
Negative feedback system Shuts the system off once the set point has been reached
Positive feedback system Enhances the production of the product
Pathophysiology When homeostasis is not maintained
Equilibrium System variable is not changing and no input of energy is required.
