stratum spinosum spiny layer of the epidermis formed from8-10 layers of irregularly shaped cells with very prominent intercellular bridges or desomose
stratum granulosum where the process of surface keratin formation begins
keratohyalin intensely staining granules required for surface keratin formation
stratum lucidum very flat closely packed and clear
stratum corneum most superficial layer of epidermis, composed of very thin squamous cells are dead at skin surface
