What is the difference between DNA and RNA? DNA stores genetic info that tells cells how to carry out life functions RNA helps carry out those instructions. It copies the info from DNA and helps make proteins
What does Homeostasis mean? The body's way of keeping things balanced and stable inside, even if things change outside
Explain ATP The energy currency of the cell. ATP has 3 phosphate groups, when one breaks off, energy is released and ATP becomes ADP The cell can then add phosphate back to ADP and make ATP again.
What are the mechanisms of heat loss? Radiation- Heat waves away from blood and skin Conduction- Transfer heat to skin then to cooler external envir. Convection- Transfer heat energy to cooler air that is continually flowing Evaporation- Absorption of heat from blood and skin by sweat
What are the three types of cells found in bone and what is their job? Osteoblasts- Builds new bone by producing collagen and minerals (B= build) Osteoclasts- Break down old bone tissue to release calcium into the blood (C=crush) Osteocytes- Maintain bone tissue (cyte=stay)
Uniaxial Joints Hinge- elbow Pivot- head of radius against ulta
Biaxial joints Saddle- joint of thumb Condyloid- between radius and carpals (wrist)
Multiaxial joints Ball and socket- shoulder Gliding- between vertebrae
Types of snapses Electrical snapse- to cells joined end to end by gap junctions (between cardiac and smooth muscles) Chemical snapse- At the end of terminal branch of presnaptic neuron axon
What are neurotransmitters? The body's way of letting brain cells talk to eachother and control everything from your mood to heartbeat
