Human physiology

QuestionAnswer
Central Nervous System (CNS) Consists of the brain and spinal cord; integrates and processes all incoming sensory information.
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) The network of nerves outside the brain and spinal cord that connects the CNS to the rest of the body.
Autonomic Nervous System Controls involuntary body functions like heart rate, digestion, and respiratory rate.
Parasympathetic Division Division Part of the autonomic system that promotes “rest and digest” functions.
Sympathetic Division Triggers the body’s “fight or flight” response during stressful situations.
Neurotransmitter Chemical messenger that transmits signals across a synapse between neurons.
Cerebellum Region of the brain that coordinates balance, posture, and motor movement.
Medulla Oblongata Controls vital functions such as heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure.
Liver Function Produces bile, stores glycogen, and detoxifies harmful substances.
Neuron The basic structural and functional unit of the nervous system.
Myelin Sheath Fatty covering around axons that increases the speed of nerve impulse transmission.
