What is the sliding filament theory of muscle contraction? During contraction, actin and myosin filaments slide past each other, the sarcomere shortens, and the muscle fiber generates tension.
What are the two major subdivisions of the nervous system? Central nervous system (CNS) & Peripheral nervous system (PNS)
What is the difference between the somatic and autonomic nervous systems? Somatic nervous system - voluntary control of skeletal muscles Autonomic nervous system - involuntary regulation of cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, glands
What are the primary components of blood? Plasma, Red blood cells, White blood cells, & Platelets
What is the role of the nephron in the kidney? The nephron filters blood to form urine. It reabsorbs needed substances and excretes waste through filtration, reabsorption, and secretion.
How does the heart pump blood through the body? Right side pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs while left side pumps oxygenated blood to the body.
