Term/ Definition

TermDefinition
• Anatomical position a standardized reference posture used in anatomy and medicine to describe the location of body structures.
• Homeostasis the process by which living organisms maintain a stable internal environment, such as body temperature and blood sugar, despite changes in their external surroundings
• Nucleic acids macromolecules essential for life, with the two main types being DNA and RNA. It store and transmit genetic information, with DNA acting as the blueprint and RNA playing a key role in protein synthesis.
• Plasma membrane is a semi-permeable barrier that surrounds all cells, separating the interior from the environment and regulating the transport of substances.
• Osmosis is the movement of a solvent, typically water, through a semipermeable membrane from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration.
• Meiosis is a specialized cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, producing four genetically distinct haploid cells (gametes) from a single diploid cell.
• Epithelial tissue is a type of body tissue that forms continuous sheets of cells covering all internal and external body surfaces and lining cavities and organs.
• Epithelium the thin tissue forming the outer layer of a body's surface and lining the alimentary canal and other hollow structures.
• Hypodermis is the deepest layer of the skin that attaches to underlying muscles and bones.
• Skeletal system is the body's framework of bones, cartilage, and ligaments that provides support, protects organs, enables movement, and stores minerals.
