Q: What are the two main divisions of the nervous system? A: The central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
Q: What are the basic functional units of the nervous system? A: Neurons.
Q: Which part of a neuron receives signals from other neurons? A: The dendrites.
Q: What is the function of the myelin sheath? A: It insulates the axon and speeds up nerve impulse transmission.
Q: What are the three main parts of the brain? A: The cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem.
Q: What is the main function of the cerebellum? A: It helps coordinate muscle movements and maintain balance and posture.
Q: What protects the brain and spinal cord? A: The meninges and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
Q: What is the difference between the somatic and autonomic nervous systems? A: The somatic system controls voluntary movements; the autonomic system controls involuntary body functions.
Q: What are the two divisions of the autonomic nervous system? A: The sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions.
Q: What neurotransmitter is mainly used by the parasympathetic nervous system? A: Acetylcholine.
