| Diaphysis | The shaft or central part of a long bone. |
| Osteoblast | A bone-forming cell that secretes bone matrix. |
| Spongy Bone (Cancellous Bone) | Light, porous bone tissue inside bones that contains red bone marrow. |
| Tendon | A connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone. |
| Ligament | A tough band of connective tissue that connects bone to bone. |
| Fontanelle | Soft spots between the skull bones of an infant where bone formation is not yet complete. |
| Articular Cartilage | Smooth cartilage that covers the ends of bones in joints, reducing friction and absorbing shock. |
| Periosteum | A tough, fibrous membrane covering the outer surface of bones; contains blood vessels and nerves. |
| Ossification | The process by which bone tissue is formed. |
| Axial Skeleton | The part of the skeleton that includes the skull, vertebral column, and rib cage; supports and protects vital organs. |
