Tissue & Skin-wk 4
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are the four main types of tissues in the human body? | Epithelial tissue – covers and protects surfaces. Connective tissue – supports and connects parts of the body. Muscle tissue – allows movement. Nervous tissue – sends and receives messages. |
| What is the structure and function of epithelial tissue? | Epithelial tissue forms protective layers on body surfaces and lines organs. It controls absorption, secretion, and protection — for example, the skin’s outer layer (epidermis) is epithelial tissue. |
| What are the main layers of the skin, and what does each do? | Epidermis: outer layer; protects against germs and water loss. Dermis: middle layer; contains nerves, blood vessels, and glands. Hypodermis (subcutaneous): deepest layer; stores fat and insulates the body. |
| How does the skin help maintain homeostasis? | The skin helps to regulate body temperature (by sweating or constricting blood vessels), protect from infection and UV rays, and prevent dehydration by reducing water loss. |
