QuestionAnswer
What are the main functions of a cell? Cells perform all the basic life processes—obtaining energy, making proteins, removing waste, reproducing, and responding to the environment. They are the smallest units of life.
What is the cell cycle, and what are its main stages? The cell cycle is the series of steps a cell goes through to grow and divide. It includes: Interphase – cell grows and copies DNA. Mitosis – nucleus divides. Cytokinesis – cytoplasm divides, forming two new cells.
What is mitosis, and why is it important? Mitosis is the process that divides a cell’s nucleus into two identical nuclei. It’s important for growth, tissue repair, and replacing old or damaged cells.
How do cells differentiate and develop into specialized types? Cell differentiation occurs when certain genes are turned on or off, causing cells to develop into specialized types like muscle, nerve, or skin cells. This process is essential for forming tissues and organs.
