What is the function of nervous tissue? Nervous tissue transmits electrical signals throughout the body, enabling communication between different parts.
What are the layers of the skin? The skin has three main layers: the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis (subcutaneous layer).
Types of bones based on shape: Long, short, flat, irregular, sesamoid.
Sympathetic vs. parasympathetic: explain the difference Sympathetic = fight-or-flight; parasympathetic = rest-and-digest.
Effects of sympathetic stimulation: Increased heart rate, dilated pupils, bronchial dilation, blood flow to muscles.
Effects of parasympathetic stimulation: Decreased heart rate, increased digestion, constricted pupils, energy conservation.
What is Homeostasis? the maintenance of a relatively stable internal environment within the body, despite changes in external conditions. It is essential for the body’s proper functioning and survival.
What is the role of ATP in muscle contraction? Provides energy for myosin heads to detach and reattach to actin.
Types of white blood cells and function: Neutrophils (phagocytosis), lymphocytes (immunity), monocytes (macrophages), eosinophils (allergy/parasites), basophils (inflammation).
What is the pH scale? A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, ranging from 0 (acidic) to 14 (basic).
