Latitude The distance in degrees north and south of the equator

Aerial Photographs Photographic images of the Earth’s surface taken from the air.
Satellite Images Pictures of the Earth’s surface taken from a satellite in orbit.
Title Tells you the subject of the map
Compase Rose Diagram of a compass showing direction.
Latitude Lines Distance north or south of the Equator measured in degrees.
Longitude Lines Distance east or west of the Prime Meridian measured in degrees.
Key Section of a map that explains the map’s symbols and shading.
Scale Bar Section of a map that shows how much distance on the map represents a given distance on the land.
Locator Map Section of a map that shows a larger area than the main map.
Physical Map Shows physical or natural features of an area. (Elevation, Mountains, & Rivers)
Political Maps Shows “political units” of an area (Countries and their borders, States and their borders, Capitals or major cities)
Special-purpose Maps Can show things like highways, resources, population density, election results, weather and climate patterns, growing seasons
Location Tells you where it is. Absolute & Relative location
Place Tells you what it is like. It is an area with at least one unifying physical or human feature
Region Tells you what each area has in common. It is a mix of human and non human features
Movement How people, goods, and ideas get around. (ex. trucks, cars, trains, & planes).
Human-Environment Interaction What people do to the environment and what the enviornment does for people.
